A pandemic purgatory where the inhabitants of a Dystopia preceding their Utopic nightmare don't know how long they are going to be stuck there. The road to hell was paved with good intentions about avoiding the suffering and disguising the ugliness of truth instead of creating beauty and happiness with it.
But happiness deals with meaning, meaning deals with the perception of reality. It also deals with concepts of virtue and sin, illumination, forgiveness, and redemption. The easier way to explain why the Journey to Paradise must start in Hell and finish in Heaven is to think about the process of reconciliation, or penitence. It follows several stages: the illumination and recognition, and confession of "sin", acts of penance, forgiveness, and the resolve not to repeat "sin".
“Now go and sin no more.”
